Putting together baby gear is not an easy task for experienced mommy’s, let alone first time moms. Baby Arabic Names put together an essential newborn baby gear check list with an Arabic twist for your reference.
New born babies are generally small in size, yet their gear can easily take up half a room in your home. Minimalism is a great concept that can be applied to your baby gear initially. You can always splurge later. Here are the essential baby gear you need in the first 12 months after your baby comes home:
Crib. Stationary classic style cribs are nice to have. Out of experience with our two babies, a portable baby crib would server you a lot better in the first 6 months. You can set it next to your bed, allowing you to reach for your baby at night to breast feed, then set it in your living room at daytime to keep an eye on your baby. It also travels well when visiting family for the holidays or staying in hotels.
More traditional cribs are more useful past 6 months and can be placed in a separate room. Make sure that the crib is safe and the mattress you choose is firm and fits snugly. Here is a nice crib with great reviews.
Car seat & stroller Combining the car seat and stroller is the smartest thing you can do that will save you tons of time, money, and add to your convenience. Pick a car seat that can click mount into it’s designated stroller, and click into a pre-mounted base in your car. Here is a lower end car seat that is cheaper in price. On the other hand here is an awesome car seat that grows with your baby all the way past toddler years. Start out with a light weigh stroller that fits nicely into your car’s trunk and can be carried around with ease. Avoid oversized wheels unless you’re truly going to use it as a jogging stroller.
Changing table. You can purchase a changing table separately or as a built-in set with your baby crib. Always use safety straps, and keep the baby within eyesight and reach. Stock up on baby wipes and lots of diapers. You will need it. Set this up away from windows or radiators.
Diapers. Depending on the size of your baby at birth and how fast they will grow. Get enough diapers to serve your for the first month, you can always get more in later. Make you buy them in bulk, and don’t be afraid to try store brands.
Baby wipes. Go ahead and buy a huge box of wipes, they will be used, trust us with that. Babies pee and poop so much, you might as well get a year supply of wipes.
Skin lotion and ointment. Go the natural route if at all possible, many people with Middle Eastern specifically residing on the Mediterranean apply cold pressed olive oil to the baby after a diaper change, and only resort to ointments as needed. Tip, supplement natural olive oil instead of lotion to the baby’s skin after baths, under armpits, under their neck area, and all over the skin. Always have ointment handy to apply as needed to their external skin after a diaper change. Talk to their doctor for more details.
Diaper bag. Multi-use back to hold diapers, change of clothes or two, snacks for yourself, formula with bottles and nipples unless you are breast feeding, and hand sanitizer to clean your hands before touching your baby. Get a diaper bag that is stylish enough which can be used for years to come.
Bouncy chair and Swing. Many options for bouncy chairs to securely sit your baby in while you get things done around the house. We were lucky enough to have an automated bouncy chair or swing that moves around and offers different speeds and white noise sounds. Yet there are several manual bouncy chairs that work just find. Remember to always secure the seat belts, and keep and eye on your child.
Baby bathtub. Baby’s usually love water, after all they spend close to 9 months in water. You can bathe your child in a bathtub once their pediatrician inspects their umbilical cord and gives you the green light. Always stay with your child and be super careful while bathing them.
Thermometer. Get a digital thermometer, they are simple to read and are generally accurate if you go with a good brand and read proper reviews. Digital thermometers are easiest to read.
You can use this list as a reference if you’re having a baby shower, and do your own in depth research on what else is needed.
